I couldn't buy the bedding I wanted. So I learned to make it.
A letter from Vanessa Brunner — about the bed that started everything, a small atelier in Slovakia, and fabric from Italian mills that gets softer every year.
The letter
It started with a bed I couldn't shop for.
Dear reader,
You have probably never heard of BRUNI, and that is alright. We are a small bedding atelier in Bratislava, and I would rather introduce myself properly than shout at you with discounts.
A few years ago we had a bed we loved. It was not a standard size — many good beds are not — and that is where the trouble started. Every duvet cover I found either hung off the edges or came up short. The beautiful linen lived in boutiques abroad. The affordable sets were blends that felt fine in the packet and terrible by February.
I remember standing in a shop with a fitted sheet in my hand, thinking: I do not want cheaper bedding. I want honest bedding. Fabric that is actually good, cut to the bed we actually own.
Nobody was making it. So I decided to.

What we built instead
BRUNI is not a factory. It is a small atelier here in Slovakia — a cutting table, very good hands, and fabric that arrives on rolls from Italian mills that have been weaving longer than most brands have existed.
I chose those mills because you cannot fake your way around fabric. Linen tells you the truth in the third month, not on the day it arrives. Ours is stonewashed European linen and high-end Italian weaves, OEKO-TEX® certified, chosen by touch before anything else.
Every set is cut to order. If your bed is 200 by 220, we cut 200 by 220. Atypical sizes are not a special request here — they are our everyday work. It is slower than pulling a plastic-wrapped set off a shelf. It is also the only way I know to make bedding that fits as if it were made for you. Because it was.
And if you write to us, it is usually me who answers. That part I refuse to outsource.

Three things I will not compromise on
People ask what makes a small atelier different from a big brand. For me it comes down to this.
The fabric
If I would not sleep in it for ten years, we do not cut it. Italian weaves and stonewashed European linen, OEKO-TEX® certified — softer after every wash, not thinner.
The hands
Every BRUNI set is sewn and finished in Slovakia by people I know by name. When something is checked, a person checked it.
The fit
Your bed's real dimensions, not the nearest standard size. Made-to-measure is not our premium tier — it is simply how we work.
Our mission
Bringing luxury textile craft back to Slovakia.
For generations, Slovak villages lived from textiles. BRUNI exists to give that craft a future — every set is sewn by experienced Slovak seamstresses, on fabric worthy of their hands.
